Above is the video for the international sensation dance song, Sandstorm by Darude. This song was extremely well known for its fantastic keyboard rift, making at must analyze music video.
The first shot we see in the video is an establishing long shot of Darude himself from a low angle, this makes him look extremely powerful and the one in control, this is clear to the audience and they will instinctly pick this up without realising.
The temple in the background of the first scene also gives a sense of power, and because he is sitting in front of it, it links him to it as if the temple is his and he is the one in control. This shows to the viewer he is the man in control, especially with the headphones representing the DJ meaning he could be the one controlling the music. This is intensified through the use of a panning shot as it shows he is the only one in the scene connoting that he owns the place.
The fast paced running we see in the next part of the scene, adds to the pace of the music this is because the running has been done in perfect synchronicity to the song, this effect helps to build the pace, tempo and tension of the scene.
The pace and tension of the scene is intensified further with the director utilizing jump cuts that are in line with the music, this adds to the pace and tension and really draws the audience in and makes them have a feeling when listening to the song.
The audience once again see darude positioned in a higher view of the runners this shows that he is the one in control still, he is also featured with the headphones again, this shows the audience that he is the one in control not just of the people but of the music.
Finally, slow motion has been used to intensify the music further, but instead of the song doing it through jump cuts and fast paced editing they have slowed it down to make the audience focus on the tune and not what is happening in the video. it also makes the audience wonder what is going to happen and gets them on the edge of their seat.
