I have looked on the internet and in my personal collection of all of faithless Albums/Single CD Packs and Cases and they have not as of yet released a DigiPak version of an album therefore, completeing analysis that will aid me in designing my own DigiPack for my music video of their famous song 'Insomnia'. They have released the following albums:
Reverence – April 1996
This is Faithless’ first album
released in April of 1996 this album contained some of the bands most
well-known hits which have gone on to become world famous songs such as
‘Insomnia’, ‘Salva Mea’ and ‘Don’t Leave’. This album managed to reach No. 26
in the UK charts. The band later released another version of the album
including a second CD, known as Irreverence which included remixes of nearly
every track done by someone else. The album also contains a song which has
appeared on Channel 4’s comedy series Trigger Happy TV called ‘Don’t Leave’.
The album cover to the left is the cover for ‘Reverence’ it
depicts Maxi Jazz the lead singer of the band covering his face with his hands.
The cover is in Black and White connoting one or the other linking into the
name Reverence meaning deep respect for, as you either have it or you don’t.
Him covering his face in the cover connotes that he is hiding something, or he
is thinking about his faith and respect is one of the things faiths desire.
Sunday 8pm – September 1998
This is Faithless’ second album release two years later in
September of 1998 and this album includes one of their most famous songs ‘God
is a DJ’ Similarly the band released another version of the album which
includes mixes of the original songs. The album finally reached a height of
No.10 in the UK charts. The album cover for Faithless’ Sunday
8pm shows the Band as being on in the movie theatre at 8pm Sunday this easily
relates to the title of the album and connotes that the Band are on show and
the customer by buying the album has come to watch the Band perform.
Outrospective – June 2001
This was the follow on album to Sunday 8pm with the single
‘We come 1’ being their most popular song with it charting No.3 in the UK
singles chart. The album also included many other big hits of Faithless’ off
this album and the album reached the highest of all faithless albums at No.4 on
the UK albums chart. However, the band did not come without criticism even from
the Bands percussionist who said it was his least favourite the band had done.
The album cover for Outrospective is s
photograph that was taken during the 1968 students uprising in Paris, this
could symbolise to the viewers and listeners of the album that the music
present in the album will be different and an uprising against the original
style of faithless.
No Roots – 2004
This is Faithless’ fourth studio album they released in 2004
this was their first album to reach No.1 in the UK album chart and it features
vocals from Rollo’s sister Dido as well as LSK and Nina Simone.
The image on the front of the album
cover depicts a Kid being looked after by another youth this fits with the name
of the album as there is no adult present in the picture connoting that the
children have no roots in the form of their parents.
To all new Arrivals – 2006
This album wasn’t even meant to exist
yet after the band went on their greatest hits tour supposedly their final tour
the demand for more was high and the album was released on the 27th
November 2006 a week after they released the single from the album ‘Bombs’. The
album name was inspired by two babies that entered the families of some members
of the band plus Maxi Jazz’s parents arriving in the UK in the 1950’s. The album cover for this album is simple and minimalist
like some of the faithless album covers, in this one the viewer sees a
landscape picture of London and its docks, one of the most common passages for
people to come into the country therefore this links in with the name all new
arrivals.
The Dance – 2010
This is faithless’ sixth and final studio album that will be
released. It was released under their own record label, Nate’s tunes. Once again
the album features Rollo’s sister Dido on two of the songs ‘North Star’ and ‘Feelin
Good’ The band wanted to express that they had gone back to their roots with this
album, with it being the most dance like they had done, similar to the stuff of
the past. However, the album was not greatly received due to the difference in
tone and sound and therefore only managed to reach No.1 in the charts in
Belgium.
The
album cover depicts Maxi Jazz and Sister Bliss as being almost God like,
looking over the people who are losing themselves in the dance music, this
implies that the sound they are creating is what is making the people dance.
