Over the course of the summer and into the start of the new year me and my friend/colleague from last year, Ross Freeman decided to produce a home made Camera Dolly in order to get some nice tracking shots that we can use in our A2 Production Video. The inspiration for wanting to do this was so we could achieve effective looking shots without having to fork out massive amounts of money to purchase or rent an expensive camera dolly system like the one to the left, however, these would be extremely expensive and I would be limited to the time I could use this is where the idea was born.
The Camera Dolly was made out of bits and piece we could get from local shops and our school. The different bits and pieces that we used are as followed:
2 Child's Roller Blades (8 Wheels), we used these roller blades to provide the wheels and the bearing for the dolly. The next thing we purchased was the large 2M Tube of PVC Pipe, this would be the tracks for our Dolly, however, we needed to mount the wheels on L Brackets, attached with simple quarter inch bolts and nuts, the last element that we needed was the large bit of wood that we could connect the wheels to in order to make the platform for the tripod to stand on.
Me and my colleague/friend made a Demo Video of the Dolly at work:
A photograph of the Dolly on set is below:
